Description

This banana cake filling is the kind of creamy, dreamy layer that makes an ordinary cake feel like a bakery dessert. Made with ripe bananas, cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar, it’s smooth, rich, and full of cozy banana flavor. It works beautifully for layer cakes, cupcakes, dessert bars, and other easy recipe ideas when you want a quick dessert upgrade, a crowd-pleasing party cake, or one of those homemade food ideas everyone remembers after the first bite.

Ingredients

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons heavy cream

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, optional

Instructions

1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

2. Add the powdered sugar gradually and continue beating until light and fluffy.

3. Mix in the vanilla extract and lemon juice.

4. Add the mashed ripe bananas and beat just until combined.

5. Pour in the heavy cream and mix until the filling becomes smooth and spreadable.

6. Fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans if using.

7. Chill the banana cake filling for 20 to 30 minutes before using.

8. Spread between fully cooled cake layers, pipe into cupcakes, or use as a sweet filling for other desserts.

Notes

Do not use warm or hot mashed bananas, because they can loosen the filling too much and make it harder to spread neatly between cake layers.
