Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds

1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.

2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly as it bubbles.

3. Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens and turns amber (about 10–15 minutes).

4. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract quickly, and pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

5. Spread the toffee evenly with a spatula.

6. Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a minute to melt.

7. Spread the melted chocolate into a smooth layer using a spatula.

8. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and flaky salt, if using.

9. Allow to cool at room temperature or in the fridge until fully set.

10. Break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure to stir constantly while the toffee cooks to avoid burning.

Let the toffee cool completely before breaking for the cleanest edges and snap.
