Description

Blueberry Cream Cheese Croissant Casserole is the kind of breakfast bake that instantly makes brunch feel special. Flaky croissants, creamy pockets of sweetened cream cheese, juicy blueberries, and a rich vanilla custard come together in one easy recipe that tastes like a bakery-style treat. It is perfect for a quick breakfast, holiday brunch, breakfast ideas for guests, easy recipe prep, and cozy food ideas when you want something warm, sweet, and impressive without a lot of complicated work.

Ingredients

6 large croissants

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup fresh blueberries

1/2 cup blueberry preserves

5 large eggs

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon zest

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Tear the croissants into large pieces and place half of them in the baking dish.

3. Scatter pieces of cream cheese over the croissants, then add the blueberries and spoon small dollops of blueberry preserves around the dish.

4. Top with the remaining croissant pieces and add any remaining blueberries and preserves.

5. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth.

6. Pour the custard evenly over the croissant mixture and gently press the croissants down so they soak up the liquid.

7. Let the casserole rest for 20 to 30 minutes.

8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

9. Cool for 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Do not skip the resting time before baking, or the croissants may stay dry on top and the custard may not bake evenly through the center.
