Ingredients
2 large yellow onions
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
8 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
0.5 teaspoon salt
0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Slice the onions thinly and set aside.
2. In a skillet over medium-low heat, melt butter and add the onions. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 30–40 minutes until golden and caramelized.
3. In a large bowl, mix softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded Gruyere, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
4. Fold the slightly cooled caramelized onions into the cheese mixture.
5. Transfer to an oven-safe baking dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
