Description

Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu is the kind of easy recipe that makes dinner feel exciting without making the kitchen feel hectic. Golden cubes of extra-firm tofu are pan-crisped until crunchy, then coated in a glossy honey garlic sauce with soy, sesame, and a touch of tang. It is perfect for a quick breakfast meal prep, easy dinner, healthy snack plate, lunch bowl, or simple weeknight food idea when you want something comforting, flavorful, and better than takeout.

Ingredients

14 ounces extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

3 tablespoons neutral oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup honey

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

2 green onions, sliced

1 tablespoon sesame seeds

3 cups cooked jasmine rice

Instructions

1. Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.

2. In a bowl, toss the tofu with cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.

3. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

4. Add the tofu in a single layer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and crisp on all sides.

5. In a small bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.

6. Reduce the heat to medium and pour the sauce into the skillet.

7. Toss the tofu gently for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the pieces.

8. Serve over cooked jasmine rice and top with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Do not skip pressing the tofu, because extra moisture keeps it from crisping properly and can make the coating fall off in the pan.
