Ingredients
Crust and Topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Apple Filling:
2 1/2 cups peeled, chopped apples
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Reserve 3/4 cup of the mixture for topping; press the rest into the bottom of the pan.
- In another bowl, combine chopped apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- Sprinkle the reserved topping over the apples and lightly press.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let cool completely before slicing into bars.
