Ingredients

Crust and Topping:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Apple Filling:

2 1/2 cups peeled, chopped apples

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Reserve 3/4 cup of the mixture for topping; press the rest into the bottom of the pan.
  5. In another bowl, combine chopped apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  6. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved topping over the apples and lightly press.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool completely before slicing into bars.
