Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

24 ounces marinara sauce

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

9 lasagna noodles (traditional or no-boil)

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

1. Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cook until beef is no longer pink and onions are soft. Drain excess fat.

2. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes to combine flavors.

3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper until smooth.

4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce.

5. Layer 3 noodles, then 1/3 ricotta mixture, 1/3 mozzarella, and more meat sauce. Repeat layers two more times.

6. Finish with a final layer of sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

8. Let rest 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This lasagna can be assembled up to 1 day ahead and baked just before serving.

For a spicier kick, substitute half the beef with Italian sausage.
