Ingredients

2 pounds ground beef

1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (or 2 tsp dried)

1 cup marinara sauce (plus more for topping)

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Parmesan, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and parsley.
  3. Mix until just combined, then press into prepared loaf pan.
  4. Top with 1/2 cup marinara. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
  5. Remove foil, sprinkle mozzarella over the top, and bake 15 minutes more.
  6. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara and garnish with basil.
