Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 cup uncooked white rice

1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 1/2 cups beef broth

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or Gruyère for extra depth)

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef in olive oil until browned. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Drain excess grease.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook over medium-low heat for 20–25 minutes until caramelized.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine uncooked rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and cooked ground beef.
  5. Pour mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  6. Remove foil, top with shredded cheese and caramelized onions. Bake uncovered for 10–15 more minutes until cheese is melted.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with herbs and serve.
