Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

3 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

1. Melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl.

2. Add granulated sugar and brown sugar to the melted butter and whisk until glossy and smooth.

3. Whisk in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

4. In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, and salt.

5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.

7. Pour the batter into a parchment-lined 8×8 baking pan.

8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.

9. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

Don’t overbake! The center should still be slightly soft when you take them out.

For cleaner slices, let them cool completely and use a hot knife to cut.
