Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 tbsp olive oil

1 large onion, thinly sliced

8 oz mushrooms, sliced

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp water (for slurry)

Instructions

1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

2. Form the mixture into 4 oval patties.

3. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear patties until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.

4. In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp olive oil and cook sliced onions and mushrooms until soft and caramelized (about 8-10 minutes).

5. Add beef broth to the pan and scrape up any browned bits. Bring to a simmer.

6. Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.

7. Mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry, then stir it into the gravy. Cook until thickened.

8. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, noodles, or vegetables with gravy spooned over top.

Notes

This dish tastes even better the next day—perfect for meal prep or leftovers.

For extra richness, use a mix of butter and oil when cooking the onions and mushrooms.
