Ingredients

1 box German chocolate cake mix

1/3 cup evaporated milk (divided)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

60 caramel squares, unwrapped

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Cooking spray or parchment paper


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch pan.
  2. Mix cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and melted butter until a thick dough forms.
  3. Press half of the dough into the pan. Bake for 8–10 minutes.
  4. Melt caramels with heavy cream over medium-low heat, stirring until smooth.

  6. Add remaining dough in pieces over caramel layer.
