1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup unsalted butter (softened, divided)

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

2 tablespoons golden syrup or corn syrup

2 tablespoons heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.

2. In a bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup softened butter. Mix until crumbly, then press into the pan evenly.

3. Bake the shortbread for 20–22 minutes until light golden. Let cool.

4. In a saucepan, combine remaining 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, syrup, and cream. Stir constantly over medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes until thick and golden.

5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, then pour caramel over the cooled crust. Let it set.

6. Melt the chocolate chips using a double boiler or microwave. Pour over the set caramel and smooth the top.

7. Chill for 1–2 hours until firm.

8. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and cut into 16 bars with a warm knife.
