Description

Old Fashioned Southern Banana Pudding is the kind of dessert that instantly feels like home. With creamy vanilla pudding, layers of ripe bananas, and soft vanilla wafers that melt into each spoonful, this easy recipe is pure comfort from the first bite. It’s perfect for potlucks, holiday tables, quick dessert prep, family gatherings, and make-ahead food ideas when you want a classic sweet treat everyone loves.

Ingredients

2 boxes instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 ounces each)

3 cups cold whole milk

1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 container whipped topping (8 ounces, thawed)

1 box vanilla wafers (11 ounces)

5 ripe bananas, sliced

Instructions

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until it starts to thicken.

2. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

3. Fold in the thawed whipped topping gently until fully combined and fluffy.

4. In a 9×13-inch dish or large trifle bowl, arrange a layer of vanilla wafers on the bottom.

5. Add a layer of sliced bananas over the wafers.

6. Spread part of the pudding mixture over the banana layer.

7. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with pudding on top.

8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours so the wafers soften and the flavors blend.

9. Garnish with extra vanilla wafers or banana slices before serving if desired.

Notes

Use bananas that are ripe but still firm, because overly soft bananas can turn mushy and make the pudding watery too quickly.
