Ingredients

For the crust:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the apple filling:

4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the snickerdoodle topping:

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup butter, softened


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar for the crust. Add flour and salt, mix until a dough forms.
  3. Press crust dough into pan and bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss apples with both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  5. In another bowl, mix cinnamon sugar and flour, then add butter to make the crumb topping.
  6. Spread apple filling over baked crust.
  7. Sprinkle snickerdoodle topping evenly over apples.
  8. Bake an additional 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into bars.
