Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

Red gel food coloring

Green gel food coloring

½ cup holiday sprinkles or sanding sugar

Instructions

1. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

2. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until dough forms.

5. Divide dough into three equal parts. Leave one uncolored, tint one red, and the third green.

6. Roll each dough portion into rectangles, about ¼-inch thick. Stack the layers and roll into a tight log.

7. Wrap the dough log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

8. Preheat oven to 350°F. Slice the chilled dough into ¼-inch rounds.

9. Press edges of each cookie into sprinkles.

10. Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 9–11 minutes. Cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Always chill the dough well to prevent spreading during baking.

Use gel food coloring for the most vibrant swirl without altering the dough texture.
