Ingredients

For the chicken:

1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-sized pieces)

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil spray (for air frying)

For the honey BBQ sauce:

1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)

1/4 cup honey

1 tbsp butter

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Optional garnish:

Chopped green onions

Toasted sesame seeds


Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours in the fridge).
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, pressing gently to coat.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Spray basket with olive oil.
  5. Place chicken in a single layer. Spray tops lightly with oil. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.
  6. In a small saucepan, combine BBQ sauce, honey, butter, vinegar, and chili flakes. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Toss air-fried chicken with the warm sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds and serve hot
