Description

Best Layered Black Forest Trifle is the kind of dessert that instantly steals the spotlight. With layers of moist chocolate cake, luscious cherry filling, creamy whipped cheesecake mixture, and rich chocolate pudding, it is a beautiful easy recipe that feels perfect for holiday dessert tables, party food ideas, make ahead desserts, and special occasion treats. If you are looking for an easy dessert, chocolate cherry trifle, family gathering dessert, or impressive food idea that tastes as good as it looks, this one is always a winner.

Ingredients

2 cups chocolate cake, cut into cubes

1 can cherry pie filling, 21 ounces

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 package instant chocolate pudding mix, 3.9 ounces

2 cups cold milk

1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

8 maraschino cherries

Instructions

1. Prepare the chocolate cake and let it cool completely, then cut it into bite sized cubes.

2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture.

4. Whisk the chocolate pudding mix with cold milk until thickened, then chill for a few minutes.

5. Add half of the chocolate cake cubes to the bottom of a trifle bowl.

6. Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the cake layer.

7. Spread half of the cream mixture over the cherries.

8. Spoon half of the chocolate pudding over the cream layer.

9. Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, cherry filling, cream mixture, and pudding.

10. Finish the top with dark chocolate shavings, chopped walnuts, and maraschino cherries.

11. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving so the layers can set and the flavors blend.

Notes

Do not assemble the trifle while the cake is still warm, or the creamy layers can melt and turn loose instead of staying beautifully defined.
