Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 large eggs

3/4 cup eggnog

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 cups powdered sugar

3 to 4 tablespoons eggnog

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of ground nutmeg for topping

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

4. Stir in the eggnog and vanilla extract until combined.

5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until no dry streaks remain.

7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

8. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.

9. Let the bars cool completely in the pan.

10. To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, eggnog, and vanilla extract until smooth.

11. Spread the glaze over the cooled bars.

12. Sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg over the top and let the glaze set before slicing.

Notes

Do not overbake the bars, because even a few extra minutes in the oven can make them lose that soft fudgy texture.
