Ingredients
3 pounds sweet potatoes
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
2. Arrange slices in a single layer in a buttered baking dish or cast iron skillet.
3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
4. Stir in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt.
5. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until syrupy.
6. Pour the mixture over the sweet potatoes evenly.
7. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
8. Remove foil, baste the potatoes, and bake uncovered for 20–30 minutes more.
9. Let rest for 10 minutes to thicken before serving.
10. Spoon extra glaze over the top and serve warm.
Notes
Use orange-fleshed sweet potatoes like Garnet or Beauregard for best flavor and texture.
Don’t skip the resting time—it helps the syrup thicken and cling better to each slice.
